The CUSD Reads Superintendent's Book Club is back for its third year, offering rewards for students who read or listen to any book on their own time and turn in a short review. Audio books, e-books, graphic novels, fiction, nonfiction, picture books, chapter books – they all count!
This year’s program runs the entire month of October and from February 16-March 25, 2027 (between February Break and Spring Break). Students earn digital points redeemable for prizes through their school’s incentive program – and every review counts as an entry in our school’s year-end drawing for a bookstore shopping spree with Dr. Peterman! Digital review forms with an option for video reviews are available in ClassLink.
Research is clear that the benefits of recreational reading extend far beyond academics:
Builds vocabulary and comprehension
Develops critical thinking
Improves memory
Decreases stress
Increases confidence
Supports empathy
It's fun!
“I still remember reading the Harry Potter series for the first time. While I was reading one book, the author was still writing the next one, and I was so excited to go to the bookstore or the library to pick up that next copy and dive right back into that story,” said Superintendent Amy Peterman. “That’s why I started the CUSD Reads Superintendent’s Book Club – to help students discover and celebrate the joy of reading.”
