As we head into the winter season, we know many families are making plans to travel and spend time with loved ones during the holidays. We completely understand that these family moments are precious and important!
We encourage families to plan travel during school breaks whenever possible. Your child's education is incredibly important, and there is no substitute for being present in the classroom. In-person instruction provides the highest quality learning experience: direct interaction with teachers, collaboration with peers, and immediate support when needed. While Independent Study helps students keep up with coursework, it cannot fully replicate the engaging learning environment of the classroom. However, we also recognize that sometimes family circumstances require travel during the school year, and we're here to support you when that's the case.
If your family needs to be away from school during instructional days, we're here to help your student stay on track with their learning. We offer Independent Study contracts that allow students to complete their coursework while traveling, so absences don't have to mean falling behind.
Here's what you need to do:
Please contact your child's Learning Director at least two weeks before your planned travel dates to request an Independent Study contract. This advance notice gives teachers time to prepare appropriate assignments and ensures your student has everything they need before leaving.
When you reach out, please let us know if your child will have access to WiFi while they are away. This information helps teachers plan appropriate assignments based on your student's technology access during travel.
Upon return, your student needs to check in with their Learning Director and bring all completed work. This ensures proper credit is given and helps teachers support any areas where your student may need additional help.
If you have questions about the Independent Study process or need help connecting with your child's Learning Director, please reach out to our front office. We're here to support you in making these plans work for your family while keeping your child's education a priority.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child's success!
